Poem of the Week / Victoria Sanchez

EVE DREAMS

Your sweet honey earth-brown eyes,
so soft the saccharine sun flies.
Beat my words down down,
to pack the earth’s golden crown.
Your sweet honey earth-brown eyes,
dream of dragons, the fireflies.
Against lovely memories, fists pound
Tender bites against your lips, then round
rocks the wheel so high, so high,
round and round the little lights die.
I swallow, swallow your darling eyes—
those sweet, sweet gentle cries.
Such sweet honey earth-brown eyes
sing of saffron; bone-skin seeds rise.
Your precious eyes are mine to claim,
as the stars and beasts are mine to name.
Sweet honey earth-brown eyes
plan dearly, sweetly, of my demise.
